Termites

Termites

Termites (also known as white-ants) are an essential part of our pest control services.  They are one of the most destructive pests to a building owner.  More often a large extent of damage is carried out, without the building owner knowing.

Termites are all over Australia causing millions of damage to buildings everywhere they can find food.  The problem is so bad that insurance companies will not cover termite damage in your building. This means that if your building is infested with termites, you are going to have pay to have them removed and to have the damage repaired.

Common signs of Termite infestation include:

  • Timber surface changes. Termites excavate wood so that only a very thin layer of wood is left on the surface, if the cavity is disturbed the termites will cover the holes with mud like material. This mud pack protects the termites from light and disturbances. Examine your window sills and skirting boards for wood softness and signs of mud packing.
  • Termite or mud trails. These trails are generally highly visible mud tracks that connect the nest to the food source. Tubes can be broken open, active tubes will contain termites while inactive tubes will be dry and crumble easily.
  • Damaged wood. Termite damaged wood echoes with a dull thud or hollow sound when tapped with a hammer.

If you believe you may have termite activity or have noticed some of the signs above give, please DO NOT disturb the termites, by disturbing them the termites may relocate to another location without letting a professional treat them. It is very important that you contact a qualified pest controller for a termite inspection immediately.
